Common Questions

How do I scan a QR code?

Press ⌘ ⇧ S (or your own shortcut), then drag a rectangle around the QR code. The result is copied to your clipboard, and links open in your browser.

Nothing happens, or I see a permission error

QR Reader needs the Screen Recording permission to see the area you select.

Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording.
Turn on QR Reader.
Quit QR Reader from its menu bar icon and open it again.

The shortcut does not work

Another app may be using the same shortcut. Open Settings from the QR Reader menu bar icon and record a different one.

The QR code is not detected

Select the whole code with a little margin around it, and make sure it is not too small on screen. Zooming in on the page or image usually helps.

I don’t want links to open automatically

Open Settings from the menu bar icon and turn off “Auto-open links in browser”. You will get a notice with an Open button instead.

How do I restore my purchase on another Mac?

Sign in with the same Apple ID, open Settings from the menu bar icon and click Restore Purchase. The same option is on the upgrade screen.

Does QR Reader send my screen anywhere?

No. Everything is processed on your Mac and the captured image is discarded right away. See the Privacy Policy.
